Oilfield innovator, physician honored as University's Outstanding Alumni

The University of Louisiana at 69传媒 has recognized an oilfield innovator and a medical entrepreneur as its 2017 Outstanding Alumni.

Donald E. Mosing and Dr. William 鈥淜ip鈥 Schumacher received the award in conjunction with Homecoming Week activities. It is the highest honor UL 69传媒 gives to a former student.

The pair was honored at a reception Thursday at the Alumni Center. They will also be recognized during halftime of the Homecoming game between the Louisiana Ragin鈥 Cajuns and New Mexico State Aggies. Kickoff is 4 p.m. at Cajun Field.

Mosing is president and chairman emeritus of Frank鈥檚 International, a global oilfield services company with 3,000 employees in 60 countries. His father, Frank Mosing, started the company in 1938.

Donald Mosing earned a bachelor鈥檚 degree in mechanical engineering from Southwestern Louisiana Institute, now UL 69传媒, in 1950. As a student-athlete, he lettered in football, and in track and field.

He joined the family business shortly after graduation. During his 67-year career in the oil industry, Mosing patented more than 60 inventions for oilfield pipe handling mechanisms.

The Louisiana Gulf Coast Oil Exposition named him as its 1997 LAGCOE Looey. He received World Oil Magazine鈥檚 Lifetime Achievement Award in 2011.

The University honored Mosing with an honorary doctorate in engineering in 2016.

Schumacher is executive chairman of Schumacher Clinical Partners. He founded the company in 1994. It helps physicians and hospitals expand medical services and improve patient care.

Schumacher is past chairman and founding member of the Emergency Department Practice Management Association, a national trade organization. He is the former medical director at Opelousas General Hospital.

The American College of Emergency Physicians named him its Hero of Emergency Medicine in 2007. He also received the Hemophilia Foundation of America鈥檚 2002 Humanitarian Award. In 2011, he was among Ernst & Young鈥檚 Entrepreneur of the Year Award winners for the Gulf Coast region. 

Schumacher received a bachelor of science degree from the University of Southwestern Louisiana in 1976. He is a 1980 graduate of Louisiana State University Medical School in New Orleans.
