Meet theatre major Edouard Ferrell

Written byCaleb Cooper, communications major

鈥淚 love being a theatre major because I鈥檓 constantly faced with creative problem-solving and hands-on learning. Focusing on design and tech allows me to fulfill my passion of combining aesthetic sensibilities with very technical skills.鈥

Where I'm From

I鈥檓 from Natchitoches, La., and I wanted a program that would give me more opportunities than many other universities would have.

Where I Am

I鈥檝e worked on 10 productions, recently as a cutter-draper in a University production of The House That Will Not Stand.

Where I'm Going

I鈥檓 going to travel the country and the world working with various companies as a costume designer/technician.

Edouard Ferrell is taking a hands-on approach to his theatre major. With a concentration in design and technology, Edouard creates costumes, wigs, does makeup, and a variety of other creative tasks.

鈥淚n just my year and a half of being in the department, I鈥檝e worked on about 10 productions, whether it鈥檚 opera, dance, or the main stage theatre shows as well as capstones,鈥 he said.

鈥淚t鈥檚 a really varied experience in different roles; it kind of gives me ideas of what I鈥檇 be interested in working on in the future.鈥

Being a theatre major allows Edouard to hone in on his particular skills and passions.

Staying close to family and taking advantage of TOPS provided two important reasons for attending UL 69传媒, but another big factor was the smaller size of the University.

鈥淚鈥檝e already had so much experience running shows and making costumes for shows. At bigger universities where there鈥檚 a lot more competition for those roles, I find that I get to try more things in a shorter amount of time.鈥
