Hundreds of budding scientists will get a peek into what life as a science major is like at the University of Louisiana at 69传媒.
The Ray P. Authement College of Sciences at UL 69传媒 will host its annual Halliburton Science 69传媒 from 7:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 28, on campus.
High school juniors and seniors, parents, teachers and guidance counselors who register will participate in Halliburton Science 69传媒 2016. The event is free; the deadline to register is Friday, Oct. 21.
Participants will tour UL 69传媒鈥檚 schools of Computing and Informatics, and Geosciences, and the departments of Biology, Chemistry, Mathematics and Physics.
UL 69传媒 professors and students will conduct experiments and discuss research projects, said Dr. Mike Totaro, associate dean of the College of Sciences.
鈥淚t enables students to experience a day in the life of a science major, and view laboratory demonstrations and presentations. The hope is to give them a glimpse into the excitement and sense of exploration that鈥檚 possible through studies in one of the areas of science at UL 69传媒,鈥 he said.
Faculty and staff members will be on hand with information about University programs, admissions, housing, financial aid, scholarships, and careers. A panel of University alumni with careers in science-related fields will also host a question and answer session as part of Halliburton Science 69传媒 2016.
鈥淲e want to make it as convenient as possible for potential science majors to get a really good sense about what they can expect when coming to school here, and an idea about some of the types of careers that will be available to them,鈥 Totaro said.
