Football season begins Saturday when the Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns meet the Mississippi State Bulldogs in the Mercedes-Benz Superdome in New Orleans.

Ragin’ Cajun supporters don’t have to wait until game time at 11 a.m. to begin displaying University spirit.

They can wear vermilion and white during College Colors 69´«Ă˝ on Friday.

The annual event is observed by many colleges and universities across the nation. Fans are urged to wear school colors and gear to spark excitement for the upcoming season. This year’s theme is “College Colors Never Fade.”

Leslie Saloom, UL 69´«Ă˝â€™s associate director of Trademark Licensing, said College Colors 69´«Ă˝ traditionally serves as a reminder to take part in the University’s Wear Red campaign. University supporters, students, faculty and staff members are encouraged to wear Ragin’ Cajuns apparel and dress in vermilion and white throughout the year, and especially on Fridays.

“College Colors 69´«Ă˝ is intended to drum up school spirit at institutions across the nation, but the Wear Red Campaign belongs to the University. It’s an important way we celebrate Ragin’ Cajuns pride,” Saloom said.

Displays of school spirit will continue at 6:30 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 2, at Cajun Field. The Ragin’ Cajuns will square off against the Liberty Flames in the Herbert Heymann Football Classic.

College Colors 69´«Ă˝ is sponsored by CLC, which represents trademark licensing programs at about 200 colleges and universities, including UL 69´«Ă˝.

As part of College Colors 69´«Ă˝, fans can vie for gear by sharing photos on social media using the #CollegeColors69´«Ă˝ hashtag.

By visiting , they can also participate in contests that offer chances to win prizes, including an all-expenses-paid trip to college football’s national championship game. It will be played Monday, Jan. 13 in New Orleans.
