Biography
Dr. Boyun Guo is a full professor and graduate coordinator in petroleum engineering. He also serves as the director of the Center for Optimization of Petroleum System (COPS) at the Energy Institute of Louisiana (EIL).
He had 9 years of work experience in the petroleum industry, 5 years of work experience in a U.S. research center, and over 20 years of work experience in U.S. academia. He has conducted and participated in a number of high-level research projects including those sponsored by U.S. NASA and Department Of Energy (DOE).
His research interests are in the areas of development and utilization of geo-energy resources, including unconventional oil and gas reservoirs, gas hydrate reservoirs, and geothermal resources.
He has published over 140 papers in peer-reviewed journals and presented over 70 technical papers in national and international conferences. He also authored 11 books and a great number of invention patents in petroleum engineering. He has supervised and graduate 15 Ph.D. students and over 40 master’s students in the past 20 years.
He received the Eminent Faculty (Distinguished Professor) Award from the UL 69´«Ã½, Outstanding Doctoral Student Mentor Award from the UL 69´«Ã½, the Award for the Distinguished Contributions to the Petroleum Engineering from the Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE), and the Distinguished Achievement Award for Petroleum Engineering Faculty from the SPE.

Student Research/Collaboration
Lab testing and computer simulation of CO2-CH4 swapping process in gas hydrate reservoirs for natural gas production and CO2 storage.
Dr. Guo's research interests include development and utilization of geo-energy resources, including unconventional oil and gas reservoirs, gas hydrate reservoirs, and geothermal resources.
